Black Country Bugle

You’ll know it’s the enemy when they shoot back

-

IN these troubled times, I recount the experience of my uncle, Ron Turner of Taylors Lane, Oldbury, during the troubled times of World War II.

Ron Worked at Accles and Pollock, Oldbury, as did his father, Charlie Turner. He was in a reserved occupation which excused him from military service.

Gun

Rounds Green Road, now known as Black Country House and shown in photographs you published some months ago.

They were told to fire at enemy aircraft. They asked how they could tell German planes from British ones, and were told that the enemy ones would fire back!

I know not whether any of these members of Dad’s Army ever hit anything.

I wonder if any other readers remember Ron or Charlie Taylor and the heroic defence of the UK?
