Black Country Bugle

Four ‘Fives’ under one roof

- By DAN SHAW

WILLIAM Stanier’s “Black Five” steam locomotives were a familiar sight in the Black Country as they were the workhorses of the London Midland and Scottish Railway.

Built through the 1930s and ’40s they continued to provide sterling service right up to the final days of steam in the late 1960s.
