Three-in-a-row for Villa

- By DAN SHAW

THESE pictures take us back 40 years to the Molineux on October 24, 1981, when Wolves and Aston Villa met in the old First Division.

It was an afternoon to forget for the Wolves as they were on the receiving end of a 3-0 beating from their Brummie rivals.

Torrid

In fact, October was a torrid month in Wolves-villa relations. The two clubs met three times in the space of 20 days and Villa won all three encounters.

The first was on October 7 at Villa Park for what was then called the Milk Cup. Top flight clubs joined the League Cup in the second round and Villa were the victors in the first leg by a 3-2 margin.

Next came the clubs’ First Division encounter before the second leg of the Milk Cup second round was played at

Molineux on October 27. That ended in a 2-1 win for Villa, giving them an aggregate win of 5-3.

Villa went on to be knocked out of the Milk Cup that season in the fifth round by West Bromwich Albion.
