Did Jack’s father help to build Blakenhall?
IT has been interesting to read recent Bugle articles about my grandfather [Jack Addenbrooke, one of the founders of Wolverhampton Wanderers].
His life as secretary/manager of the Wolves is well documented. However much less is known about his father, also a John:
Born in Gornal, December 1834.
Bricklayer
Married in Gornal, August 1856 (at which time he was described as a bricklayer).
Moved family to Blakenhall, Dudley Road, in 1864/5, and moved again within the same area of Wolverhampton at least twice.
He died in 1894, and was described at that time as a builder.
I have often wondered, as they moved around the same area, if he was involved in the construction of this part of the town. Family photographs show a degree of comfort, and his offspring certainly prospered.
Is there anyone who knows of any way for me to find out more about the possibility of his involvement in the building of the area?
