Black Country Bugle

Party in the street for our new queen

- By GAVIN JONES gavin.jones@reachplc.com

THIS being the year of the queen’s platinum jubilee, we thought we’d take a look back very nearly seventy years and see what Black Country folk were doing in coronation year, 1953.

These pictures from the Bugle collection were taken at High Farm Road in Hasbury, Halesowen, and show the locals celebrating on what looks like a pretty chilly day for early June, judging by their attire.

As is often the case with items that have been sent to the Bugle down the decades, there is no information with them other than the location. But do you recognise yourself, a family member or a neighbour among the revellers? Please let us know if you do: email gjones@blackcountrybugle. co.uk, write to us at Black Country Bugle, Dudley Archive Centre, Tipton Road, Dudley, DY1 4SQ, or give us a call on 01384 880531.
