What was the story of Maisie’s murder?
MY late Gran, who came from Prince Street in Pleck, Walsall, used to talk about a tragic lady called Maisie Lee, who originated from Ford Street in Pleck, opposite Prince Street, and was sadly murdered on the steps of the now defunct Starting Gate pub in Newport Street,
Walsall, during the 1920s.
The killer was caught and eventually tried and hanged, but I wondered whether anyone also knows any more about this infamous Walsall murder at all and can shed any light on it?
It is also sad to see the Starting Gate, as well as a few other pubs in area, lying derelict now in Walsall, and I wonder whether we are also seeing the slow murder of the British public house ?
