You beauty! Lads and lasses play for charity
THERE is not a great deal that we can tell you about these photographs that came to light after a rummage through the Bugle collection. They were taken on October 24, 1976, and most of the information has been lost in the intervening 46 years.
The occasion was a charity football match arranged by the Halfords Lane Throstle Club in West Bromwich, but we cant’t tell you what they were raising money for. The game was between a ladies team, the Wasps, and a men’s side, Bucklies Bashers.
As you can see, the men decided to play the game in drag – dresses, stockings and suspenders, and balloons stuffed under their tops. It didn’t improve their game, or perhaps it was a handicap, as the men lost to the ladies, the final score 6–5.
Only one picture had any names with it, so we’d be grateful if readers can name any more of the people involved. Perhaps you were there, back in 1976, or even played in the game – please tell us all about it.
