Sixties shop memories
THIS photo was probably taken in the early ’60s.
My father-in-law, Ron Brindley, was the manager there until he retired in the 1970s. I recall Millie, one of the shop ladies, was always full of life!
Ron worked there for over 40 years, travelling from Sedgley to Birmingham fish and fruit markets at 5am in the mornings for stock. When he retired, the owners gave him nothing, so the girls bought him a tin of his favourite Gold Flake pipe tobacco.
There was another Heaths at the top of Bilston town.
