In 1952 a young princess became our queen Her coronation in 1953, a wonderful, memorable scene Happy and Glorious, newspaper headlines read A bejewelled crown nestled upon her head.

A golden coach toured London’s crowded miles Thousands witnessed her waves and sparkling smiles With handsome Prince Philip by her side She commenced ruling with dignity and pride.

Reigning for seventy years, overcoming some trouble and strife She brought calm and comfort to British life She carried out her duties in regal style Whilst controllin­g her family with a winning smile.

For seventy years she reigned supreme With pride and glory enhancing a Commonweal­th’s dream God Bless Elizabeth – our nation’s mother In many a millennium there will be no other.

At the age of 96 she has departed Leaving many millions broken-hearted A leader of serenity, style and sense of fun The warmth of her smiles like summer sun.

A friend of politician­s, commoners and kings She has left us, on angels’ wings Thousands paid homage to her lying in state A queen never to be forgotten – Elizabeth the Great!
