European champions beaten at the Hawthorns
WE turn the clock back to August 14, 1968, with this picture from the Bugle collection.
It was Albion’s second game of the 1968-69 season and their opponents at the Hawthorns were European champions Manchester United.
United’s Denis Law (10) takes on Baggies stalwarts John Kaye (6) and John Talbut (5) while an anxious-looking Bobby Charlton and George Best watch. The Baggies won 3–1, with two goals for Jeff Astle and one for Tony Brown beating Charlton’s effort.
