Men’s Own versus the Boys in Blue – twenties teams pictured together

- By GAVIN JONES gjones@blackcountrybugle.co.uk

IT’S not often two opposing teams pose together for a photograph, but that’s what happened on one occasion in 1929.

Thankfully the photographer had the foresight to add the names of the teams to the picture, so we know, almost a hundred years on, that the two sides were from the same town – they were Halesowen Men’s Own and

Halesowen Police.

The only other detail we have is that one of the players, at the far left of the front row, was called Harry Holloway. What we don’t know is whether he and his colleagues in the lighter shirts were Men’s Own or Police.

If you recognise anyone from this picture, please get in touch via email, or call 01384 880531.
