Double triumph for local ladies

There was considerab­le delight on Sunday as Rattray Bowling Club members claimed two top titles at the Scottish District finals, held at Kinnoull BC.

The Senior Singles winner was Catherine Kinnear, who won a hard fought game against Liz Reid from Blairgowri­e 21-18.

The Senior Fours rink from Rattray also won after playing another closely contested game against Blairgowri­e. The match was decided by a single shot in the final end.

The winning rink from Rattray was Cath Donaldson, Sheila Richardson, Sheila Brogan and Margaret Beedie. These players now represent District 6 at the national finals in Ayr at the end of July.

The Blairgowri­e rink comprised Muriel Wilkie, Mary Greenaway, Doreen Anderson and Pat Rumgay.

Elsewhere, Rattray played a friendly away against Strathmart­ine on Saturday, winning 78-71.

Scores, Rattray skips first, were: G Campbell 21, R Hutton 19; J Watson 18, G Culross 14; A Grant 23, J Mitchell 19; A McIntosh 16, J Other 19.

Elsewhere, junior coaching sessions have restarted and take place on Monday nights from 6.30pm.

Coaching is free and bowls are provided. Anyone heading along is asked to wear plimsoles.

• There was a good turnout of members at Blairgowri­e Bowling Club’s rinks night on Friday.

Scores were: D Milne 26, S Morrison 4; P Mucha 20, M Greenaway 8; D Troup 12, J Crerar 12.

Highest up rink: I Robertson, J McLaren, skip D Milne – 22 shots up.

Elsewhere, Blairgowri­e travelled to Scone for a mixed friendly on Saturday, losing 65-37.

Scores, Blairgowri­e skips first, were: W Donaldson 16, A Dow 10; D Campbell 21, H McEwart 4; B Rogerson 13, D Slidders 13; L Reeves 15, D Sutherland 10.

●The weekly club lottery now stands at £250.

The were no winners. The numbers were 10, 13, 16 and 20.
