Local karate kids make grade on special day
Skill and technique were on show in abundance during the latest grading session held by Blairgowrie and Coupar Angus Shotokan Karate Club.
The enjoyable event took place on May 28 at Blairgowrie Community Campus.
Chief instructor Ally Whytock said: “Everyone successfully passed their exam by proving their competency in skill and their effectiveness of technique. All successful candidates will now progress to their next level of study.”
After the exams, the class was taught a basic two person flow drill developed by ninth Dan Patrick McCarthy. Belts awarded were as follows: Red 9th Kyu – Natalia Jazdzewska, Lewis Wright, Sarah Spalding, Sophie Duncan and Phil Jenkins;
Yellow eighth Kyu – Matthew Stallard, Daniel Ostrowski and Rhydian Colanse;
Orange seventh Kyu – Patrick Mucha, Jan Sala, Martyna Siemieniuk, Keira Hamilton and Michael Hay;
Green sixth Kyu – Tyler Brand and Rohini Mayne;
Blue fifth Kyu – Rholmark Colanse and George Brodie.
Members meet from 7-8pm and 8-9pm on Mondays at Blairgowrie Community Campus. They also attend sessions at the same venue from 6-7pm and 7-8pm on Fridays.
There is also a session from 6.30-7.30pm on Wednesdays at Coupar Angus Town Hall.
