YOUTH DARTS CONTEST PRAISED
Players have been praised for their efforts following the successful first-ever competition organised by the Blairgowrie and District Darts Youth Academy.
Held on May 21 at The Gig, talented youngsters aged between five and 14 years showcased their skills in a series of matches.
Chloe O’Brien won the inaugural event, beating Calum Morgan 2-0 in the final. Beaten semi-finalists were Ross Smith and Lewis Wright.
Oliver Nicol won the consolation competition, beating Rachel Findlay in the final, and Jake Burgess won the prize for the highest score recorded with three darts. The local lad was delighted to receive a set of darts signed by Scotland captain Ross Montgomery in recognition of his efforts.
Players and spectators there on the day also got the chance to get a glimpse of potential future international darts glory as Alan Soutar, a fellow Scotland international, brought along his World Cup gold medal and European Cup medals.
Reflecting on a successful day, Daryl Stewart – who set up the academy and runs it with the help of fellow volunteers – thanked all the players for taking part and congratulated the winners.
He also thanked Scotland star Alan and Saltire Darts for their support, as well as the numerous parents, children and local businesses who have backed the academy since its formation.
• The Blairgowrie and District Darts Youth Academy meets from 6-7.30pm on Wednesdays at The Gig on the town’s William Street.
