Dog walk supports puppy appeal

-

A sponsored dog walk takes place in Blairgowrie this Sunday.

The walk is the latest event in the town’s campaign to raise enough money for Guide Dogs to name a guide dog puppy.

So far over £4000 of the target of £5000 has been raised.

The walk is open to all dogs, regardless of size or age.

Participants will walk along Oakbank Road for as far as they want and everyone taking part will receive a goody bag and a certificate.

There will also be a special dogthemed prize for the pooch who raises the most money.

A number of Blairgowrie-related names have been selected as possible monikers for the puppy and residents can vote for their favourite at various local businesses and shops. Each vote costs £1, which goes towards the total fundraising amount.

Organisers are hoping for a good turnout on the day as they make the final push towards their £5000 target.

The walk will start from the car park at Cargill’s in Lower Mill Street with registration between 10.30am and 12.30pm. Entry is free and every penny that is raised will go straight to the puppy appeal.

Sponsorship forms for dogs taking part in the walk are available from Deirdre McVean at deirdre.mcvean@ btinternet.com or call 01250 873059.

Forms are also available at Cargill’s.

Participants should take completed sponsorship forms and money with them on Sunday. Cheques should be made payable to Guide Dogs. The Mount Blair Community Development Trust held a fundraising shop in the former Howe’s premises in Reform Street, Blairgowrie.

Volunteers at the shop enjoyed a busy week and raised £1900 to support community projects.

Trust chair Philip Smith said: “We are delighted to have raised such a fantastic amount.

“It all helps with the community projects we are working on, which range from community broadband, community transport, the Spittal of Glenshee project and the heritage project to new walking routes in the area.”

He thanked Sue Smith for organising it all, the 18 volunteers who helped set up and staff the shop and everyone who purchased items or donated goods.
