Church Sunday’s service was conducted by Rev Tom Tait. Readings were by Margaret Patullo, from Luke ch 15, v 11-32. The choir sang the introit ‘O Lord the Refuge’. Prayers were said for Jo Cox MP and her family and for the victims of the Orlando shootings. Rev Tait’s sermon was on the parable of the prodigal son. A younger son sought his inheritance from his father but squandered it. The father welcomed him home with open arms when he returns seeking forgiveness. An older brother stayed loyally with his father to work in his fields and was very critical of his father for accepting his brother back into the fold. In this parable the father does not represent God but is simply an example of a good father. However, God is also a good, forgiving father who welcomes back lost souls through Jesus. If people are willing to take that route he will accept and forgive. Austin Wilkie, organist, played Prelude and Fugue in A minor (JS Bach) and ‘The Windmills of Your Mind’ (Michel Legrand).
