Kirkmichael gets summer festival spirit
Cinderella and Snow White are two of the iconic characters set to feature in this year’s Kirkmichael Summer Festival.
The heroines have provided the inspiration for a pair of floral displays which can be viewed throughout Saturday and Sunday this week in the parish church.
The church will be open from 10am-4pm on Saturday and from 11am-4pm the following day. Entry is via a donation to the collection plate.
Created by 1st Strathardle Brownies and the local Clicking Needles group respectively, the Cinderella and Snow White displays will be joined by several other creations, all inspired by the overall theme of fairytales.
The wider two-day community showcase – making its return for 2016 after a break last year owing to building work being carried out at Kirkmichael Session House – will see a host of other activities take place.
The session house itself will be the venue for a variety of stalls, including teas and coffees, cake and candy, a tombola, bric-a-brac and a book stall.
The local Beavers will be running a stall in the session house on the second day of the festival. Anyone who wants to hold a table top sale can contact development worker Petrina Menzies, who coordinates the festival, on 01250 881770 or 882242.
Creativity will once again be on show in Kirkmichael Village Hall as local arts and crafts practitioners showcase their multiple talents.
And homage will be paid to east Perthshire’s soft fruit heritage during a strawberry fayre at Kirkmichael Village Shop, featuring teas, coffees, hand-made strawberry tarts and cheesecake.
The Strathardle Inn is also taking part this year by holding a barbecue lunch on both days.
The festival, which doubles as the church and the session house’s largest dedicated fundraising event of the year, draws to a close with a Songs of Praise service at 6pm on Sunday.
Songs will be sung outside the church, weather permitting.
