Meigle‘sYouth Weeksuccess

-

Meigle Cricket Club, in partnership with Live Active Cricket, held a youth cricket week in what is the club’s 140th year since formation.

The Monday saw top Edinburgh club side Carlton U12s play a Perth and Kinross select U12s.

The following day, Lanarkshire U12s travel up to Victory Park – although the match was delayed as the West District area side initially arrived in Perth for the fixture.

The hosts scored more than 200 and bowled out the visitors to win by in excess of 150 runs.

The Wednesday saw Fife area U14s take on Perth and Kinross U14s, with Meigle well-represented.

Jade Doig took what umpires, coaches, fellow players and watching parents all agreed was one of the best one-handed catches any had seen at any level of cricket.

Fife bowled the local side out for a disappointing 65, but there was some steady bowling and good fielding to give the Kingdom colts a wobble on the way to the modest total.

The final day, last Thursday, saw a combined Dundee and Angus U12 select side prove too strong for Perth and Kinross. The visitors’ Arbroath contingent made the difference.

There was a strong bowling performance by Fred Kelly, who took three wickets, and Cara Stewart batted for a long period to help her side attain a competitive total.

Local cricket development officer Stephen Boyd and community coach Richard Rennie both praised the help of Meigle CC volunteers Peter Drummond, Bob Edington, Denis Christie, Liz Sturrock and had particular praise for the efforts of groundsman Craig Mitchell.

Meigle’s U11s play in the Alan Hill Memorial Festival on Friday this week at Forfarshire CCC’s Forthill Sports Club.
