Festive fun at the Meigle switch on
Crowds turn out in force as Christmas hits the town
There was a great turnout for the official switch-on of the Christmas lights in Meigle on Sunday afternoon.
Dozens of people joined in a sing-along of Christmas carols and songs led by Doris Scott and enjoyed festive refreshments donated and served by staff members from the Spar shop in the village.
Santa made a guest appearance and spoke to lots of very happy and excited children in the village.
It was also announced at the event that £2000 has been raised in just 12 days to purchase a defibrillator for the local community in Meigle.
Doris told the Blairie: “On behalf of everyone I would like to say a big thank you to Iain Doig, Colin Douglas and Ali Napier for getting the lights in place this year.
“Thanks also to the Spar for the tree, refreshments and gifts, and for their very generous donation of £500 to go towards the defibrillator.
“Thank you to everyone who came along and supported this event and you can all give yourselves three cheers for raising such a fantastic amount of money in such a short time for the defibrillator for Meigle, which will be in place in a few weeks time.”
A craft fair held last month raised £1178 for the defibrillator and 35 people in the village have already received training in how to use the life-saving equipment, which will be based at the Spar shop.
There will be more free training available for local people in the new year.
