Online move as council bins collection calendars

-

Householders and businesses checking their bin collection dates will have to go online in future thanks to a cost-cutting move by the council.

Perth and Kinross Council will no longer be printing and posting out bin collection calendars to residents from this month.

This will save the cost of printing and postage to thousands of homes.

PKC says the move will bring it into line with other councils, and anyone wanting to double-check their provision can do so online via the council website.

Councillor Alan Grant, convener of the council’s environment committee moved to reassure people: “This change will have no impact on the service and the new calendars will pick up exactly where the expired calendar ends.

“If your bin collection day is currently a Thursday, it will still be a Thursday when the new calendar comes into effect.

“If there are any changes to collection days, we will write to the households directly to inform them of this.

“The move to a paperless approach will also help to reduce the volume of paper that needs to be recycled.”

Householders can visit www.pkc.gov.uk/bindates to view, print or download their bin collection calendar information to find out when their kerbside bins will be emptied.

A few years ago residents in some parts of Perthshire, including Strathallan and Strathearn were given the wrong calendars, costing the council extra money to correct and post out.
