Awards for chieftains of white pudding race
Tracey Gardner
East Perthshire butchers have added to their ever-growing collection of accolades with success at the Scottish Craft Butcher’s awards for white puddings recently.
H W Irvine Butchers in Blairgowrie won a silver award for Scotland’s other national pudding - the white pudding, or mealie as it is also known - in what is only the second ever product evaluation for the product by the Scottish Craft Butchers.
And Newtyle butcher James Pirie and Son and Ann Davidson who has a shop in Coupar Angus both also picked up silver awards for their white puddings.
The contest was judged in Oldmeldrum in Aberdeenshire, the heartland of the oatmeal-based favourite.
Almost 50 puddings from all over Scotland were judged by food industry experts, members of Oldmeldrum Community Council and other local foodies.
Kenneth Allan, owner at H W Irvine’s, was delighted to discover that their product had yet again picked up an honour.
Presenting the awards, Tracey Gardner of Grampian Oat Products said: “Grampian Oat Products are delighted to continue our sponsorship of the Scottish Craft Butchers White Pudding competition. We love a traditional mealie pudding, and were very impressed with the standard of entries from all over Scotland.”
We would like to extend our congratulations to all of the winners . . .
