It’s Oor Cowboy Wullie in Blair

Iconic figure visiting dentalpractice

- Clare Damodaran

A new member of the Blairgowrie Dental Care (BDC) team arrived in town earlier this month and he is already settling in to the High Street practice.

Yes siree, Cowboy Oor Wullie is in the east Perthshire capital for the next six months as a thank you to the staff and customers at BDC who raised an incredible £1444 for the Archie Foundation last year.

And while he is here he is helping to raise even more money for the Archie Foundation by collecting donations in, you’ve guessed it, a bucket.

Fans of Oor Wullie are also being given the opportunity to win a pair of tickets for local community cinema group Strathmore Screen simply by taking a selfie with Wullie and posting it to the dental practice’s social media pages.

The best photo will win the tickets.

He was one of 70 individually designed Oor Wullies that were on display for 10 weeks last year as part of the popular bucket trail before being auctioned off, raising £883,000 for the Archie Foundation.

Neil Rutherford from Blairgowrie Dental Care said that the team had had a great time raising money for The Archie Foundation and were delighted with the amount that they had raised in the surgery.

He said: “The Archie Foundation is currently trying to reach a £2 million target to fund the construction of a new children’s operating theatre and are making good progress although they still need more generous donations to help them get there.

“Our fundraising year included taking part in the Beards for Bairns initiative which saw three of our dentists receive sponsorship to not shave for a month.

“We also had a sponsored Toy Storythemed fancy dress day at the surgery and the superb effort put into their costumes by all the staff was rewarded with very generous donations from our patients.

“And we entered three teams into Archie’s virtual walking challenge where each team wore a pedometer and had to try to clock up the distance from Lands End to John O’ Groats.

“This was an excellent challenge and one of our teams - the two Nikkis, Emma, Sharon and Lorraine - made it all the way.

“We also sold Archie’s merchandise throughout the year and would like to say a big thank you to all our fantastic staff for their tremendous effort and to everyone who made a donation!”
