Congregation and voices invited to Songs of Praise
East Perthshire residents have been invited to attend a recording of the BBC’s Songs of Praise programme.
A recording of the hit show is to be held in St Ninian’s Cathedral, Perth, on Saturday, March 18, and again the following day, from 2.30-5.30pm.
There will also be a rehearsal on Saturday, March 11, in the Fair City’s St Leonard’s in the Fields Church, also from 2.30-5.30pm.
Rev Harry Mowbray, the minister at Blairgowrie Parish Church, has asked that anyone interested in heading along contact him by Sunday this week so that tickets can be applied for as a group.
The show, a fixture on UK television since 1961, presents songs of faith from concert halls and churches across the country.
Producer Garry Boon said: “These recordings give local singers a great opportunity to come together to enjoy two wonderful afternoons of musicmaking.
The conductor will be Dundee native Gordon Stewart, a professional organist of international renown, who has been one of the regular conductors on Songs of Praise for more than 20 years.
Keen singers are invited to join a specially-formed massed choir under his direction who will lead the viewers at home in the singing.
Singers and those wishing to be in the congregation are welcome to attend one or both recordings.
They can apply by going to the ‘Tickets’ page of the Songs of Praise website, by e-mailing songsofpraise@bbc.co.uk, or by telephoning 0161 335 8429.
The deadline for all ticket applications is Tuesday, February 28.
The music recorded will be broadcast in future editions of the programme.
