But disappointment after losing two-goal lead

-

Forfar Albion ..... 2 Cupar Angus ...... 2

Sports Reporter Goals from Tom Casey and Chris Liversedge ensured Coupar Angus Juniors kept their seven-game unbeaten away run going with a 2-2 draw away at Forfar Albion in the North Division on Saturday.

In the opening exchanges the visitors proved the dominant force, with Coupar opening the scoring after nine minutes.

The Forfar defence was under pressure and the centre was forced to pass back to the keeper, who picked up the ball three yards off his line.

The referee gave an in-direct free kick and Casey slotted the ball through, striking one of the Forfar team in the process – meaning that the goal was allowed to stand. Coupar continued to be in control and five minutes later Liversedge, who had switched to the right wing, lashed a shot from outside the box, giving the Forfar keeper no chance and making it 2-0 to the men from Foxhall Park.

Logan McConanchie’s men continued their pressure and Daniel Neath hit the bar with a lovely curling shot from 20 yards.

The chances kept coming for the away side, although a lack of a cutting edge meant the gap remained the same.

That was the case until the 30th minute when the hosts – mounting a rare attack – slipped past the defence and the winger crossed a ball to the un-marked striker, who scored from 10 yards.

The second half saw the game become niggly as the Forfar defence struggled to contain Liversedge on the left wing.

Eventually the referee had no option but to send off the right back for persistent fouling, with a second yellow card.

Down to 10 men, Forfar struck against the run of play for a second time and equalised with 13 minutes to go.

With Coupar pressing for a third, chances fell to numerous players. But they needed to be more clinical as Forfar held firm for a valuable point.

After the match, Coupar boss Logan said: “It was really disappointing to lose a two-goal lead but the first-half attacking display was excellent at times.

“The stats came back last night and it showed we created 19 attempts at goal with 12 chances noted as ‘clear goal scoring opportunities’.

“We have a number of things to build on in the coming weeks but we’re already looking forward to this weekend against Arbroath.”

Saturday’s match kicks off at 2.30pm at Foxhall Park.
