Enjoying doing something funny for money
East Perthshire residents supported Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day last Friday, getting together to do something funny and raise money for charity at the same time.
Staff at Bunters Takeaway in the Wellmeadow in Blairgowrie dressed up for the day and collected donations from friends and family and customers, raising around £500 for the charity.
Pupils at Newhill Primary School enjoyed a danceathon during their lunch break on Friday to raise money for Comic Relief, and staff from the Sainsbury’s Local store in Blairgowrie were at the community campus to hand out prizes to the dancers.
At Rattray Primary School, pupils sold red noses as part of their fundraising efforts, while pupils at Meigle and Kettins primary schools also donned red noses for the day, with many creating crazy hair styles to go with their comedy noses.
Across the UK, more than £73 million pounds was raised on Red Nose Day, which will go towards transforming lives across the UK and the world’s poorest communities.
This Red Nose Day, there were five issues that the charity focused on to highlight where people’s support has made a difference.
These were immunisation, mental health, education, domestic violence and malaria.
The charity funds more than 2000 projects in the UK, addressing a range of issues from homelessness and mental health to dementia and vulnerable young people.
Since the last Red Nose Day, donations have helped 11.7 million people across Africa, tackling issues such as immunisation, malaria, education, maternal health and many others.
