Stones prove weighty is­sue

The Ard­blair Stones made their first ap­pear­ance at Alyth Show this year and gen­er­ated lots of in­ter­est from spec­ta­tors as well as those keen to test their strength.

Early in the af­ter­noon Dr Lance Hol­land-Keen from Camp­bel­town, near Syd­ney, Aus­tralia, set a very high tar­get by lift­ing all nine stones in 49.68 sec­onds. The event went on be a fam­ily suc­cess as the first fe­male was his daugh­ter Leighann with five stones in 13.11 sec­onds, and his wife was sec­ond with five in 19.98 sec­onds.

Dr Hol­land-Keen, who spent his child­hood in Leicester, grad­u­ated as a doc­tor from Dundee Univer­sity be­fore em­i­grat­ing to Aus­tralia where he is now a GP.

He is only the third man ever to lift all nine stones and the sec­ond fastest.
