Blair High pupils attend philanthropy event
Two fifth-year students at Blairgowrie High School were among more than 1000 secondary school pupils from across Scotland who converged on the Perth Concert Hall last week to celebrate an incredible year of the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative – YPI Scotland.
As part of the initiative, Blairgowrie pupils Lisa Fairweather and Grace Atkinson won a £3000 donation for Guide Dogs Scotland after researching social problems in the community and creating a presentation on a local charity they believe is best placed to tackle an issue they are passionate about.
The event in Perth was hosted by The Wood Foundation, which launched YPI Scotland in 2008, and brought together the winning YPI teams from every participating school.
Dame Katherine Grainger, Britain’s most decorated female Olympian, delivered a keynote speech to those gathered.
During the 2016/17 academic year, 207 Scottish secondary schools and some 26,500 pupils have taken part in YPI, raising more than £600,000 to small local Scottish charities this year alone.
