Abbey Church The service was led by Reader Rosemary Paterson as Rev Andy Graham is currently on holiday. There was no Introit as the choir are taking a break over the summer and will resume in September. The congregation sang We have come into His house, Thou will keep Him in perfect peace, Father God we worship you, Take heart and praise our God and Christ is risen, Hallelujah. The readings were taken from Isaiah ch 29 v 9-16 and John ch 4 v 19-30 and were read by Ellen McGibbon. Rosemary spoke about worshipping God the “correct” way which is not about following rules and traditions but rather in spirit and truth. God looks on people’s hearts, on their inner motivation and He knows whether they genuinely want to draw close to Him or if their religious service is just an empty show. God has instituted worship, not because He needs people to worship Him, but because through worship people come into a relationship with Him, which is the whole purpose of their existence whether they realise that or not. Music was provided by organist Austin Wilkie and consisted of St Patrick’s Breastplate by Richard Proulx, Prelude in C by JS Bach. Melody in F by Rubin Stein and Cornet Voluntary by John Travers. The Prayer Group meets every Wednesday at 2pm in the Abbey and all are welcome. The Abbey Kirk Session will meet on Wednesday, June 28 at 7.30pm in the Abbey. The charity shop will run for two weeks from Monday, July 3 and volunteers are required to help Sheila and Allan Legge. A rota is now on the church noticeboard for anyone who can assist. The shop will be open on Sunday, July 2 from 10am where donations will be most welcome. If you are unable to bring your donation to the shop please contact Ellen McGibbon on 07541009398 and arrangements will be made for your donation to be uplifted. The Children’s Ministry has finished for the summer holidays and thanks is conveyed to all leaders and helpers who give of their time and talents every week running the groups.
