Lottery windfall for SCYD
The team at the Strathmore Centre for Youth Development (SCYD) in Blairgowrie is celebrating this week after being awarded a grant from the Scottish Children’s Lottery.
SCYD in the town’s Wellmeadow have been awarded £13,853 to help support young people in the area, with a number of projects created and led by the young people themselves.
The organisation runs various volunteer opportunities across Blairgowrie and the surrounding area for young people, and run a number of support groups – including sessions designed to educate young people about issues associated with drug and alcohol use.
SCYD also run a number of social groups such as its media group, which seeks to develop members’ skills in photography, video and animation – as well as other activities.
Ann Bailey, a senior youth worker at SCYD, said:“The funding from the Scottish Children’s Lottery will help young people who are not engaging with school, supporting them back into full-time education and helping them fulfil their potential in life.”
Dorothy Fenwick is one of the trustees of the Scottish Children’s Lottery and represents Chance to Succeed, which supports projects focused on young people and employability.
She added: “I am delighted that we are able to provide funding for Strathmore Centre for Youth Development from monies generated from the Scottish Children’s Lottery, which was established to promote and support the development and potential of children and young people in Scotland.
“Thank you to all those who play the Scottish Children’s Lottery, you are helping to support the great work that our charities undertake.”
Sean Batty, a weather presenter with STV, came to Blairgowrie last week to present the team at SCYD with their cheque.
Since the Scottish Children’s Lottery started in October last year, proceeds have been raised to help improve the lives of children and young people all across Scotland.
