Loon Braes fun day is back for a sixth year

- Clare Damodaran

East Perthshire residents are reminded Rattray’s popular Picnic in the Park returns to Davie Park for a sixth year on Saturday.

This year’s fun day, organised by the Loon Braes Parknership, takes place from noon-3pm.

There will be lots of entertainment for all the family, including a barbecue, music, bouncy castles, sumo suits, face painting, games such as splat the rat and crazy golf, a tombola, raffle and stalls.

A range of local groups and organisations will have information and fundraising stalls at the event, including the Strathmore Centre for Youth Development (SCYD), Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Football Club (BRCFC) and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Betty and Pat Marshall will be running the barbecue, selling burgers and hot dogs to raise funds for charity.

And youngsters will also have the opportunity to make their very own wooden bat boxes to take home and keep, thanks to local artist Alistair Jelks.

There will also be football demonstrations at Davie Park during the afternoon, organised by the youth section of BRCFC.

The Loon Braes Parknership’s Katrina Whyte said:“We’ve got lots of stalls this year, including hand-crafted jewellery, tablet and hair accessories.

“And we’re delighted that representatives from both Perth and Kinross Council’s housing team and drug and alcohol team will have stalls at the event, offering advice and information.

“We’re looking forward to another great event and good weather, and are hoping for a good turnout from the community.

“Come along, bring your picnic or enjoy the barbecue and relax and enjoy the entertainment.”

Katrina thanked everyone who has been involved in organising the event again this year, including Sandy Thomson and BRCFC, John Corrigam, Sheenagh Shepherd, Margaret Grant and SCYD, and all those who have donated prizes.

Stalls and spaces in the car boot sale are available at the event for a donation to the Parknership, which is raising money to carry out work at the park.
