Abbey Church On Sunday, Rev Andrew Graham gave an insight into the likely emotions of Jesus at the time of the feeding of the 5000. John Easson read the first Bible lesson from Isaiah ch 55, v 1 to 5 and Heather Cluff read from Matthew ch 14, v 13 to 21. Hymns bean with ‘The Lord is King lift up your voice’. During his sermon Mr Graham said that just prior to the feeding of the 5000 Jesus had received bad news: his cousin John the Baptist had been killed. Jesus was looking for peace and quiet to reflect. He sailed across the lake to seek peace but the crowd anticipated this and there they were. Jesus put his own concerns aside and had compassion for them and addressed them. Jesus, son of the living God, lived as a human. He endured pain, love, death, had feelings of being let down, gave his best and it was still not good enough for some people, in other words lived the gamut of emotions people also endure during their lives. His focus remained always on compassion for others. His disciples fully trusted and followed him and were not disappointed and neither will we be. Jesus calls people to act with compassion, to use their talents to make a positive difference to others. Musical offerings by Austin Wilkie were ‘Elizabethan Serenade’ by Ronald Binge, ‘Short Prelude and Fugue in F’ by JS Bach and ‘The Legend of Glass Mountain’ by Nino Ruta. Prayer meetings will resu,e on September 4 at 2pm in the Abbey. The deadline for the Isla Link is August 13. Thursday Friends Allan and Sheila Legge with Margaret Taylor are running a charity shop in Coupar Angus for the Thursday Friends group until August 12. The shop will be open from 9.30am to 4pm. All proceeds will go towards the Thursday Friends Christmas lunch and party.
