Secondstringis frustratedbyrain

-

Sunday afternoon saw Meigle CC’s second XI put in a strong performance only for the rain to yet again curtail their play.

Visiting Forfarshire fourth XI skipper, ex-Ayr CC batsman Grieg Gemmell, elected to bat first in the match reduced to 30 overs per side given the poor forecast.

Tight early bowling from Denis Christie and Gordon Croll ate away at the 30 overs with runs hard to come by, however, the openers from Forthill were still there after nine overs – despite three near run-out chances.

Wickets started to occur at regular intervals, with Gemmell the backbone of the innings as the young Forfs outfit looked to play their shots.

Chris Dickson grabbed a brace, partly thanks to the agility of wicket keeper Warren Sutherland who had a salmon-like dive to take the second wicket for off-spinner Dickson.

Alan Nicol bowled a tricky pace for the wicket with some batsmen struggling with the flight and several balls turned sharply as the showers came and went.

The score at the tea break was 108 for eight, but sadly no further play could take place due to heavy rain setting in.

The second XI are off next Sunday due to the social six-a-sides and return for a run of three weeks of games to round off the season on August 27 and finish the season on September 10.

The matchball sponsor was Beans and Berries, of Commercial Street in Dundee.
