Judges cast critical eye over displays
Community pulls out all the stops for their visit
Volunteers from local environmental group Coupar Angus Pride of Place hosted Britain in Bloom judges last week.
Special guests Rae Beckwith and James Cordingly paid a visit to the town last Friday morning.
After being given a suitably Scottish welcome by piper Robbie Smith – a member of Coupar Angus Pipe Band – outside the Red House Hotel, the judges were shown a variety of projects. These included the Pollinator’s Bed, Clyde the horse and the Blair Bend.
The judges also took in the likes of Coupar Angus Primary School – where Pride of Place works extensively with local children – and gardens recently named as award winners in a local competition organised by Coupar Angus and Bendochy Community Council and Forward Coupar Angus.
The delegation also took in Larghan Park, which has been the venue for a variety of environmentally-themed projects.
Chosen for a commitment to environmental responsibility, high levels of community participation and outstanding gardening achievements, Coupar Angus joins 71 other Britain in Bloom finalists competing to be crowned one of the cleanest, greenest and most beautiful places in the UK.
The winners will be announced at the Britain in Bloom awards ceremony in Llandudno, North Wales on October 27.
Coupar Angus is listed in the Best Large Village section as part of a competition run by the Royal Horticultural Society.
