Festive fun in Blair planned
Christmas lights event and activities
Blairgowrie and Rattray will start the countdown to Christmas next week by switching-on their festive lights on Saturday, November 25.
And organisers of the event are keen to encourage the local community to come along and support the festivities.
The fun starts at 3pm when the lights on the Christmas tree at Rattray will be switched on.
Santa will be there in his sleigh, and, once the lights have been switchedon, he will lead a parade down to the Wellmeadow where there will be a range of seasonal entertainment including performances from the Blair Bells, the Happy Feet dancers, the Rattray Marching Band and the Lyric Choir.
A number of local community groups, schools and organisations will also have fundraising stalls in the Wellmeadow.
And despite this being his busiest time of year, Santa has kindly agreed to stay and meet children in a specially prepared festive gr otto.
The Blairgowrie Christmas lights will be switched on at 4pm by Citizen of the Year, Sandy Thomson.
And there will then be more entertainment including community carol singing, led by Brenda Kerr.
A spokesperson for the Blairgowrie and Rattray Illuminations Committee said: “With the new pea lights on the Wellmeadow trees, and new lights installed in the town, the plan is to get everyone in the mood for a very festive Blairgowrie and Rattray Christmas.
“This event, and the installation, repair and maintenance of the Christmas lights, along with fundraising, is all down to volunteers, so it would be wonderful to have a great turnout from the community to celebrate all of the hard work that goes into making the festive season all the more special for everyone.”
Councillor for Blairgowr ie and Glens, Caroline Shiers, said: “This will be our third year with a grotto in the Wellmeadow and local stalls and hopefully we will get a big crowd.
“The focus of the lights switch-on is our community and in particular, our children and raising money for groups who work with them. I would encourage people to come along, to shop in town and to support and be part of our community event.”
