Christmas trees on sale at PKAVS
Sholach Trees team up with well-known charity
East Perthshire residents will have a chance to buy locallygrown Christmas trees from a pop -up shop once again this year as family business Sholach Trees has teamed up with PKAVS Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub.
Based at Wisecraft on Lower Mill Street in Blairgowrie and the Walled Garden in Perth throughout December, the pop-up shop is building on the success of a similar venture last year.
Volunteers from PKAVS will staff the shop during the week, with the Sholach Trees team on hand at the weekends to offer advice on the type of tree to choose and how to care for your tree over the busy festive period.
And a donation from every tree sold will be made to PKAVS Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub.
Sholach Trees, which is based on around 20 acres of land at Wester Essendy on the outskirts of Blairgowrie, is run by the McIntyre family, and was first established over 20 years ago by Willie McIntyre Snr.
Since then, the business has been supplying Nordmann Fir and Norway Spruce trees of all sizes both to the public and on a wholesale basis.
Two of Willie’s children, Kelly and Willie Jnr, their mother Jean, and Kelly’ s husband Craig Davies, all work for the business, combining it with their other work commitments as a photographer, train driver, supply teacher and landscape gardener respectively.
Kelly said: “We’re delighted to be working with the PKAVS Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub this year for the shop.
“It gives us an opportunity to raise awareness of the work that PKAVS does, particularly here at Wisecraft and at the Walled Garden.
“I have worked with PKAVS for a couple of years in my role as photographer and video graph er, producing films for them, and it’ s a great organisation that does lots of good work in the community.”
Janice Paterson, recovery and development officer at PK AV S Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub, added: “From our point of view it’s great to be able to have this partnership with Kelly and Sholach Trees and we are very grateful for the donations.
“The pop-up shop will give members of the public another reason to come and visit the hubs and maybe find out more about what we do and even spot something else that they might like to buy.
“It is also a good way for clients to get involved in selling the trees and feeling as though they are part of the community.”
Sholach Trees are also branching out in London this year, selling to retail customers as well as their existing wholesale customers.
Kelly said: “We did a wreath making workshop with Jillian Page from Something Special Flowers and will be selling those, made with Blairgowrie Berries and Cherries tartan, in London too.
“We’ re also taking a selection of festive crafts made by local people down with us to sell, bringing a bit of east Perthshire to London.”
The pop-up shops at Wisecraft and the Walled Garden will be open from 9am to 4pm from December 1 to 21.
