Curtain’s up at Perth panto as Provost officially re-opens theatre after renovation

Blairgowrie Advertiser - - THE WEEKEND TICKET -

Tickets are flying off the shelves for Perth panto Aladdin, the first show in Perth Theatre’s restored Edwardian auditorium following the theatre’s extensive transformation.

Gavin Jon Wright plays Aladdin, and never far away are Widow Twankey, aka dame Barrie Hunter, and Wishy Washy, played by Tyler Collins.

Aladdin and his pal Jasmine have to stop the evil baddie Abanazer in this soap bubbly, madcap, lamp-rubbing extravaganza.

Panto Aladdin is the first production to be performed in the renovated theatre, which has been closed since 2014.

The theatre was officially re-opened by Provost Dennis Melloy on Saturday at the first performance of this year’s panto.

Saturday’s audience included many former young stars of previous pantos, including actor Colin McRedie, as well as other Perth theatre stalwarts Ian Grieve who directed last year’s panto, and Una Maclean.

Aladdin runs until Saturday, January 6.
