Nominations are being sought for the 27th annual Perth and Kinross Sports Awards.

Organisers at Per th and Kinross Sports Council and Live Active Leisure are looking for nominations across 11 different categories including the prestigious Perth and Kinross Sports Person of the Year – sponsored by the Bl a i r i e’s s i s t e r t i t l e, t he Per t hs hi re Advertiser.

P re v i o u s w i n n e r s i n c l u d e Pe r t h Olympic silver medallist Stephen Milne and Kinross-shire European Indoor Championships gold medallist Laura Muir.

The event will be held at Dewars Centre in Perth on Friday, March 16, with sports broadcaster and journalist Jim Spence hosting the evening.

One of the year’s standout achievements saw long-distance cyclist Mark Beaumont – who hails from east Perthshire – break the record for cycling around the world, a feat which saw him complete an 18,000-mile journey in less than 79 days.

Perthshire Advertiser and former Blairie Editor Johnathon Menzies said:

“Athletes from the length and breadth of the region have flown the flag for Perth and Kinross at a multitude of highprofile events across the world within the last 12 months and it is right that their achievements are recognised.

“But one of the things which makes ceremonies such as the Per th and Kinross Sports Awards so special is that they are designed to give those who wouldn’t necessarily seek the limelight some well-deserved praise too.

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of the local sporting scene and I’d encourage as many people as possible to send in their nominations.”

Eligible nominees require to have either resided locally for at least the six months prior to the event or be affiliated to a club or sport in the region which is recognised by governing body sportscotland.

Other categories on the night include: School Team of the Year (sponsored by Active Schools); Club of the Year (Steve Brown Electrical); Coach of the Year (Sprinterz: Digital Print & Embroidery Specialists); George Mortimer Lifetime A c h i e v e m e n t Aw a r d ( P e r t h a n d Kinross Sports Council); Volunteer of the Year (Perth Trophy Shop); Junior Sports Personalities of the Year (Alison Wilson); Disability Sports Person of the Year (Small City, Big Personality sports section); Young Coach of the Year (The Lovat Hotel); Official of the Year (Thorntons Solicitors); Team of the Year (Springfield Properties).
