\Alyth

Parish Church Dur­ing term time the Sun­day school wel­comes chil­dren to the front pews of the church. A creche for un­der-threes is avail­able dur­ing the Sun­day morn­ing ser­vice. The prayer group meets on Thurs­days in Burn­side Court lounge at 10.30am. Choir re­hearsal is ev­ery Fri­day at 6.45pm. The church web­site at www. alyth­parishchurch.org.uk is up­dated weekly and con­tains de­tails of the Fam­ily His­tory Project, kirk news and lots of pho­tos. Lit­er­ary So­ci­ety The first meet­ing of the Alyth Lit­er­ary So­ci­ety in 2018 will take place on Tues­day, Jan­uary 16, in the Ogilvy Rooms, when mem­bers of the Alyth Show com­mit­tee will present a his­tory of the Alyth Show. The next meet­ing, on Fe­bru­ary 6 at 7pm, is the AGM. This will be fol­lowed by an il­lus­trated talk on the RNLI at Broughty Ferry by Mur­ray Brown. Pipe Band Alyth and District Pipe Band practice on Wed­nes­days from 6pm in Alyth Town Hall. The band is on the lookout for a lead tip, drum­mers and pipers of all abil­i­ties with the in­ten­tion of en­ter­ing com­pe­ti­tions for 2018 sea­son. Church Sun­day’s ser­vice was con­ducted by Rev Andy Gra­ham and the read­ings were by Jane David­son, Isa­iah ch 60, vv 1-6 and Matthew ch 2, vv 1-12. For de­tails of the ser­vice see Coupar An­gus Abbey Church. The Sun­day ser­vice at Ben­dochy is from 10am to 10.45am.

Knit and Nat­ter The next meet­ing will be on Wed­nes­day, Jan­uary 17. The group meets in Clu­nie Hall on the third Wed­nes­day of ev­ery month from 2-4pm. Whist The next whist in Clu­nie Hall is on Fri­day, Jan­uary 12 at 7.30pm.

\Coupar An­gus

Abbey Church Sun­day’s ser­vice was con­ducted by Rev Andy Gra­ham and the read­ings were by Robert Far­quhar­son, from Isa­iah ch 60, vv 1-6 and Matthew ch 2, vv 1-12. Rev Gra­ham spoke about the fear of dark­ness that many of us ex­pe­ri­ence. He also spoke of Epiphany that is associated with the visit by the Magi to wor­ship Je­sus, who was to be­come the light of the world. In his teach­ings Je­sus showed us how, by hav­ing him at the cen­tre of our lives, he can dis­pel the dark­ness. Austin Wilkie, or­gan­ist, played ‘Epiphany Pre­lude, How Brightly Shines the Morn­ing Star’ by Max Reger, ‘An­dante in C Ma­jor’ by WJ West­brook and ‘Short Pre­lude and Fugue in C’ by JS Bach. Rev Gra­ham will be on an­nual leave from Jan­uary 8 to Jan­uary 16, in­clu­sive. Rev Harry Mow­bray will pro­vide pas­toral care if you re­quire the ser­vices of a min­is­ter. He can be con­tacted on 01250 872146. Rose­mary Pat­ter­son will be con­duct­ing ser­vices at Ben­dochy and the Abbey Church on Jan­uary 14. The Abbey kirk ses­sion will meet on Wed­nes­day, Jan­uary 17, at 7.30pm in the Church. Any items for the agenda should be sent to the mod­er­a­tor or clerk be­fore the meet­ing. The chil­dren’s min­istry will re­sume on Thursday, Jan­uary 11. Or­gan­is­ers thank ev­ery­one who helps to set up for the groups. Any­one who wants to give a half-hour on Mon­day morn­ings or Thursday evenings can speak to Donna Hind­march for Mon­days and Irene Hen­der­son for Thurs­days. The prayer group will meet on Wed­nes­day, Jan­uary 24, at 2pm at the Abbey. The Bi­ble study group will meet on Wed­nes­day, Jan­uary 24, at 7.15pm in the Abbey. The next Friendly Fri­day will be on Fe­bru­ary 2 from 1.30pm to 3pm in the Abbey. The Sun­day ser­vice at the Abbey is from 11.15am to 12.15pm.
