Mei­gle aiming for top level

The fix­ture list for this year’s Strath­more and Perthshire Cricket Union’s North East Cham­pi­onship has been re­vealed.

Mei­gle Cricket Club’s first XI open their cam­paign at Vic­tory Park against For­farshire’s sec­ond string on April 28.

Among the Black and Golds’op­po­nents this sea­son will be Falk­land, who have en­tered the league this sea­son after be­ing rel­e­gated from the Cricket Scot­land East­ern Premier­ship last term.

The two teams have pre­vi­ously faced off in the Vil­lage Cup.

Mei­gle end the sea­son with an away fix­ture at the in­ter­na­tional ground at Man­nofield in Aberdeen on Au­gust 25.

New cap­tain Neil Wim­ber­ley is hop­ing to lead his side into the play-off at the start of Septem­ber and ul­ti­mately into the top flight.

The club are close to sign­ing the sec­ond of two over­seas play­ers.

Sev­eral of Mei­gle’s thriv­ing women’s and girls’sec­tion have been called up to the Cale­do­nia South U16 squad, which will train fort­nightly in the run-up to the sea­son.

The in­ter-re­gional fix­tures in early sum­mer will al­low the girls the chance to push for Scot­land U17 se­lec­tion in July/ Au­gust.
