Boss Brash looking to recruit new faces

- JOHNATHON MENZIES

Blairgowrie Juniors manager Mark Brash is hopeful of adding more new faces to his squad before the start of the new season.

The Davie Park club are in the process of sounding out potential new recruits ahead of the 2020/21 campaign kicking off.

And, although details of a return to junior football following the Covid-19 pandemic are yet to be finalised by the authorities, Brash is confident solid foundations are being laid ahead of a start date being announced by the various governing bodies.

Eighteen members of last season’s successful squad recently committed themselves to the club for another year.

A new addition has come in the form of Paul Scott, who previously played for the club in 2018/19.

Brash said he was confident at least one other signing would be confirmed this week.

He said: “We’re really needing to get a squad of about 20 as a couple of the lads work offshore and you’ll always get a couple of others needing to work at the weekends or other commitments coming up.

“This is coming up to what will be my fourth season as manager and we’ve always tried to maintain a settled squad.

“In my first season there was a big turnaround of players – I think six or seven left and the same number came in.

“You could see what that did to the team as we would win one week and then lose the next.

“But we’re a lot more solid and stable now as a unit.

“You could see that in the game against Dundee Violet last year. We were 2-0 up going into half-time but they turned it around and went 3-2 towards the end of the second half, but we stuck at it and ended up winning 4-3.

“That shows the togetherness of the squad and the benefits of all the lads getting on.”
