Win vouchers by joining in with debate on climate crisis

-

East Perthshire residents could be in with a chance of winning £1000-worth of prizes by sharing their opinions on the local authority’s plans to tackle the declared global climate emergency.

Perth and Kinross Council is launching a consultation on its Draft Climate Change Strategy to find out how the changing natural environment is already affecting residents and to explore how people can work together to limit its impact.

Once the online survey is filled out the individual or group will then be entered into a prize draw to win money for energy efficiency devices or carbon saving actions, such as insulation and tree planting, or towards active travel.

As part of the project – which is part of the wider Perth and Kinross Offer – individuals could win £1000, schools could win £500, and formally constituted community groups will be eligible for a possible prize of £1000.

To coincide with the survey, the council has outlined a number of sustainability goals it says it has achieved.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the local authority said:“[These include] ... a reduction in the total energy consumption from council buildings by 17 per cent from 2012 levels; attracting over £49 million in external funding since 2010 for projects contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and climate change adaptions; reducing the amount of CO2 emissions from council waste by 33 per cent since 2011 through improved waste reduction, reuse and recycle; and installing over 80 electric vehicle charging points.”

A series of virtual Climate Café meetings have been made available on the topic and can be viewed via the PKC website.

At these meetings there will be a short introduction to the draft strategy, followed by the chance to share views and shape the final strategy.
