Chance to get crafty as ‘cafe’ moves online

- CLARE DAMODARAN

Crafting enthusiasts in east Perthshire have the chance to get together online for a vir tual ‘craf ty cafe’ thanks to the team at Nest Creative Spaces in Blairgowrie.

The Crafty Cafe used to take place at the Nest premises and provided an opportunity for people interested in crafting to meet up socially for a cup of tea or coffee and a chat and to work on craft projects.

However, the popular weekly event was one of thousands up and down the country that was forced to close due to restrictions imposed as part of efforts to tackle the global coronavirus pandemic.

But now one of the volunteers at the community interest company is keen to re-start the Crafty Cafe online using Zoom until participants are able to meet face to face again.

The sessions take place every Wednesday from 10.30am to 12.30pm and those taking part are welcome to join for as long as they want within that time frame.

Participants are encouraged to bring along a project they are working on and a cuppa and enjoy a relaxed social session.

Tracie Dick is one of the directors of Nest Creative Spaces.

She said: “This is the first time we have run an online social session like this so it is something of a learning curve for all of us.

“But we know that over lockdown people have been missing the social s i d e o f c ra f t i n g a n d s o when Ji l l enthusiastically volunteered to run a virtual Crafty Cafe we were delighted to take her up on her offer.

“The sessions will be run live from the Remnants Shop at Nest and people can join with all sorts of projects.

“They can chat about what they are working on, share ideas and tips and even get help with a project.

“It will all be led by what the people taking part want to do, so they have ideas or suggestions for something they would like to try then we can look at seeing if we can do that.

“We’re really looking for ward to seeing how this works and to catching up with familiar faces as well as some new crafty folk.”

The online Crafty Cafes are free to join.
