Squad’s top golf support

-

Talented east Perthshire golfers have been included in Scottish Golf’s new performance programme.

The project, developed in conjunction with Open winner Paul Lawrie and Solheim Cup captain Catriona Matthew, is devised to add value and support to the work the player is doing with their personal coach.

Working alongside Lawrie and Matthew will be coaches Spencer Henderson and Stuart Clayton, sportscotland Institute of Sport practitioners and other support staff.

Blairgowrie Golf Club duo Gregor Graham and Cormac Sharpe are among those selected in the National High-Performance Squad.

They will be joined by promising Auchterarder Golf Club member Rory Franssen.

The trio will have exclusive access to Lawrie and Matthew, who will help them prepare physically and mentally for competitive golf at the highest level.

Matthew said:“The game has given me so much over the years and I hope that by sharing my experience, and mentoring the next generation, I can give something back.

“There is a wealth of potential golf talent in Scotland and anything we can do to help identify and nurture that talent will hopefully help more Scottish golfers find success at the elite level.”

Lawrie said:“By working together and utilising all of the golfing experience we have in this country, we can help our talented young golfers achieve their goals.”

Blairgowrie’s Connor Graham is among those to be selected in the National Performance Squad.

The group also features Penny Brown and Daniel Bullen from Auchterarder GC.

This programme is designed to provide competitive opportunities and a supportive learning environment designed to cultivate the players’ability to learn.
