Council will raise core path sign complaints

- PAUL CARGILL

Perth and Kinross Council has said it will raise recent complaints about seemingly unnecessary ‘Danger: Keep Out’ signs being placed along a core path east of Murthly with the local landowners believed to have put them in position.

A council spokesperson said officers would contact the owners of the Baldarroch Estate to find out why the signs have been put along the path after residents reported their appearance on social media last week.

The post said: “Following on from their blocking and rerouting of the core path which was reinstated following council intervention, Baldarroch Estate have now installed three signs saying ‘DANGER KEEP OUT’ along the SPIT/111 - STAN/112 core path.

“There is no apparent activity going on there that poses any danger (eg construction, mining, forestry). PKC access officers have been informed and asked to ensure the landowner is compliant with the 2003 Land Reform Act. An update will be posted when available.”

A PKC spokesperson commented: “We have received reports of the signs referred to which are adjacent to core path STAN/112. The council will contact the landowners to discuss this matter.

“The council corresponded with the estate manager in September 2020 regarding a reported obstruction of core path STAN/112 by fencing and a locked gate.

“The estate manager thereafter arranged for the obstructions to be removed. No enforcement action was required.”
