Quiz win sees pupils get hands on sheild
Kirkmichael youngsters take top honours at event
Representatives from the Rotary Club of Blairgowrie visited Kirkmichael Primary School recently to present the winners of the Rotary Club’s primary schools’ quiz with their shield.
This year, the popular annual event was held online due to restrictions in place as part of efforts to tackle the global coronavirus pandemic.
The quiz sees teams of four from eight primary schools in east Perthshire take part in 10 rounds of six questions covering topics such as maths, geography, history, literature, the natural world and sport.
After a closely-fought contest, youngsters from Kirkmichael Primary School were announced as the winners.
The school previously won the quiz for an unprecedented three years in a row between 2017 and 2019 and were runners-up last year.
Rattray Primary School’s Malcolm Linton Smith, Callum Jenkins, Michal Wisniewski and Hannah Galloway were the runners-up this year.
Kirkmichael’s Isobel Goodman, Adrian Pyne, Lochlan Stewart, Scarlot Andreozzi and Finton Haworth will now go on to represent east Perthshire in the area finals.
Head teacher at Kirkmichael Primary School, Craig Loudon, said: “We are
very proud of the Kirkmichael team for winning this trophy.
“All of the hard work and revising they did has certainly paid off.
“Well done to the children and to their teachers and parents for supporting them.
“We would like to thank the Rotary Club of Blairgowrie for organising this event once again, we always enjoy taking part
“And well done to all the other schools who took part and made it such a close contest!”

He said: “This is always an enjoyable event and this year was no exception.
“We were delighted with the attendance from the local schools once again, although obviously things were very different this year being online, and we were impressed with the knowledge of the young people and the levels of enthusiasm for the quiz shown by the pupils.
“We would like to thank all the parents and teachers for supporting the pupils, and I would also like to thank my fellow Rotarians for all their efforts in making this event such a success every year.
“Well done to everyone who took part, congratulations to Kirkmichael and to Rattray. We’re now looking forward to the area finals and wish the Kirkmichael team the very best of luck.”
