3G pitch plans at Davie Park submitted

- JOHNATHON MENZIES

Wide-ranging plans for a substantial revamp of Davie Park in Rattray have been formally lodged with Perth and Kinross Council.

A design statement compiled by local firm IMAC Architecture on behalf of applicant Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Football Club (BRCFC) describes the project as being undertaken as part of a drive to bring the existing facilities “up to 21st century standards”.

The statement explains that the mooted development includes the uplift of the existing grassed football pitch and the installation of a 3G surface, as well as the associated drainage work.

Permission is also being sought to construct storage areas, floodlighting, cycle racks, fencing, gates and spectator rails.

In addition, the multi-faceted application includes an upgrade of the existing car parking area to boast 30 spaces, including six accessible spaces for people with disabilities.

The document states: “It is considered that the development proposals will safeguard and enhance the future of the existing facility, which is already a vital hub for the local and wider community.

“Further, the development proposals seek to bring the facility up to 21st century standards, providing full accessibility, thus not only enhancing enjoyment and functionality for existing user groups but also opening up to a broader demographic.”

The statement continues: “Further, ability to execute the development proposal would provide significant enhancement to a community hub which provides access to social interaction for all, thus permitting the promotion of mental health and wellbeing, development of social skills, physical activity, etc, all of which are across an age spectrum from infants to the elderly.

“It is considered that the ultimate build potential of the application site has not been met and that it is a logical plot for development within the immediate and wider area.

“Furthermore, the development

proposals are considered to be of a scale and character that is wholly appropriate and relates well within the established sporting facility.”

The report goes on to explain BRCFC, which was formed in 2011, currently has a membership of 242 players across various age groups.

The design statement adds: “Due to this growth in numbers and an appraisal of existing community sporting facilities, it has become apparent there is a need for current standard playing facility.

“It has been regarded for several years that Blairgowrie and Rattray has been lacking in modern sporting facilities.”

Funding worth a total of £500,000 was allocated to the project by Perth and Kinross Council in 2018.

Plans have evolved over the years and BRCFC now estimates that the total cost for the development is set to be in the region of £1.5 million.

Davie Park has been the home of Blairgowrie Juniors since 1948.

The club recently signed over the ground to BRCFC as part of the planned redevelopment project.

The application will be decided by municipal planners in due course.
