Thousands raised on Rotary Club’s golf day
The Rotary Club of Blairgowrie held its popular golf day earlier this month and raised an incredible £6500 for good causes.
This year the Blairgowrie Rotary Golf Day returned to its traditional time of year in June after having been played in September last year due to restrictions imposed as part of efforts to tackle the global coronavirus pandemic.
A record number of 32 teams took part in the event, which was played over the Rosemount course.
The teams of four played in a new format for the Rotary’s golf day – a Texas Scramble – and the winners on the day were the ‘Four Amigos’, John Brown, Lawson Doe, George 0Mclaren and Graeme Lyburn, with a score of 53.
The event was organised by Blairgowrie Rotarian Robin Duncan, who ensured a great day was had by all while adhering to all Covid-related guidelines.
He said: “After the poor weather of the last month the teams were greeted by wonderful summer sunshine and had to resort to using sun tan lotion for the first time this year.
“Blairgowrie Golf Club excelled themselves with their hospitality and catering despite the adjustments that had to be made to ensure compliance with the current restrictions.
“The day was a great success and enjoyed by all the participating teams, and our congratulations to the winning team, the ‘Four Amigos.’
“On behalf of the Rotary Club of Blairgowrie I would like to thank our main sponsors, Honda West End Garage, and our other many local sponsors who are acknowledged on the Rotary Club website.
“The success of the event was down to all those who supported it – Blairgowrie Golf Club, the caterers and bar staff, the fantastic sponsors, and Blairgowrie Rotary Club members who gave their time and donations.
“The new format of the competition attracted a record number of teams and this was reflected in a resultant financial success with over £6500 raised.
“This will allow Rotary to support local, national and international causes.”
