Side fails to ignite in EPL league fixture

-

Meigle’s tail, which has so often bailed the team out this season, failed to wag on this occasion and the home side were dismissed for a paltry 135.

Meigle got off to a great start in the field when Majid Rasheed found the outside edge of opener Brown, which was safely pitched behind by Harvey in the first over.

Thereafter it was a toil for the home side as the strong bowling unit failed to fire and Carson and Jones picked off the frequent loose deliveries presented to them.

Hopes were briefly raised when Neave had Carson caught by skipper Charles Clark for 42 but that only brought the hardhitting Hairs to the crease.

After depositing his first delivery for six, Hairs tore into the home bowling and finished the game in sharp fashion, ending on 44 from only 26 deliveries as the visitors cruised home for the loss of only two wickets.

It was a tough day for Meigle, but these were to be expected over the course of a season at the highest level.

Earlier in the week, Meigle faced Arbroath United in the third group game in the T20 Scottish Cup.

Meigle batted first on Tuesday and new T20 opening pair Majid Rasheed and Josh Edington put on a quickfire 56 runs in only seven overs before Majid was dismissed for 45.

Harvey and Neave were dismissed cheaply before the big-hitting Zahid Rasheed came in at number five.

Edington and Zahid put in another 53 before the former was out for a well-made 47.

Zahid added to his total before he was out for 45.

Meigle ended their innings on 161-6 from their 20 overs.

The Arbroath reply never got going as the Rasheed brothers made early inroads, dismissing Petrie, Cameron and McLean between them.

The Carnegie brothers briefly staged a recovery for the visitors but Meigle’s middle over bowling duo of Clark and Iain Stewart were in impressive form, sharing six wickets between them to dismiss the visitors for only 78 in the 15th over and complete a fine victory for Meigle.

The win puts Meigle top of the group at the halfway point.
