COUPAR ANGUS ABBEY CHURCH

Sunday’s service was conducted by Rev Andy Graham.

Sprinkled through the service were medleys of hymn tunes played by Esther Jack, and Jenny White played church music on the organ at the beginning and end of service.

In the opening prayer, Mr Graham referred to the “magnitude and wonder” of God’s love, even though at times people are not worth it.

This was followed by the hymn ‘All Over the World, the Spirit is Moving’.

The gospel message was read from Mark ch 4, vv 35, and told the story of Jesus calming the violent storm.

During the hymn ‘Great is Thy Faithfulness,’ which contains the line “all I have needed my God has provided”, members of the congregation were asked to reflect on just how faithful God is to them.

Mr Graham said that the storm Jesus calmed was an extremely violent one, with no apparent respite for the disciples who were extremely fearful.

The minister asked if people had ever felt so helpless during storms in their lives.

Although Jesus was sad at the lack of faith shown in his disciples, He loved them nevertheless.

Mr Graham said: “When we feel we are in the middle of a storm, remember, Jesus is the most powerful fact in our lives.

“Fear can get the best of us, so remember, when there is nothing we can do, have faith.

“Jesus will never abandon or forsake us – He stays with us. God will always be with us.

“The more we have confidence in God, the more we become close to God. God be with you, and with me.”

The closing prayer acknowledged that although, in this day and age, people don’t understand why there should be a need for foodbanks, the congregation asked for help for those in need of the service of foodbanks, and bless those who contribute and work in this cause.

The last offering by Esther Jack on the organ was the hymn ‘Jesus We Place into Your Hands’.
