Meigle’s batting woes as they face top side
Meigle welcomed top Premier side Grange to Victory Park on Saturday.
With fine recent weather being replaced by a couple of wet days leading up to the fixture, the toss would provide the winning captain with a bit of a dilemma.
It was Meigle skipper Charles Clark who called correctly.
He opted to take first use of the wicket and looked for his team to get some runs on the board.
However, runs proved hard to come by in the face of some accurate and sharp opening bowling by the visitors from Edinburgh.
They found movement, bounce and pace in the Victory Park surface throughout the day.
Meigle were at stages 22-4 and 50-7 before eventually capitulating on 74 all-out.
Only captain Clark showed any resistance with the bat as he managed to strike a few defiant blows in his 20.
The highest partnership in the innings was only 13 as Meigle’s recent batting woes continued.
It has been in the field where the villagers have excelled this season and Saturday was no different as the Rashid brothers picked up three early wickets thanks to some smart catches behind by wicketkeeper Gordon Lamb and second slip Clark.
A few other difficult chances were put down as Meigle could only grab one more wicket from Iain Stewart before the visitors eased to victory four wickets down, with more than 35 overs remaining.
It was another tough day at the office for Meigle, who took on Forfarshire in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.
